Newborn sessions are supposed to be about the baby. And yes—this one was about sweet baby Charlie. His tiny fingers, the way he curled perfectly into his parents’ arms, the quiet magic of those early newborn days at home.

But here’s something I’ve realized as a Miami newborn photographer, especially when toddlers are involved:

Toddlers are often the real star of the show.

And honestly? I’m beyond happy to let them be.

When a newborn arrives, a toddler’s entire world is rocked. The life they knew changes overnight. The attention they were used to is suddenly divided. Their routines shift. Their little hearts are trying to understand something big without having the words for it.

So when I walk into a home for a lifestyle newborn session, I come in knowing this isn’t just about the baby—it’s about the whole family adjusting to this new chapter.


Why Lifestyle Newborn Sessions Look Different (and That’s the Beauty of It)

This in-home lifestyle newborn session with Charlie wasn’t about stiff posing or forcing a toddler to cooperate. It wasn’t about perfection.

It was about letting things unfold naturally.

That meant:

One of my favorite parts of lifestyle newborn sessions—especially ones with toddlers—is giving them the attention they’ve been missing (cue Ms. O, the 10 year veteran teacher!)

I am more than happy to play with them, talk with them, and remind them that they are still incredibly important.

And just as importantly?

I love giving mom a second to breathe.

No guilt.

No pressure.

No feeling like you need to hold everything together during the session.

This season is emotional, tender, and overwhelming—and you deserve photos that honor that, not add stress to it.


Sometimes, Toddlers Run the Show (and I’m Totally Okay With That)

So yes, this was a newborn session.

Yes, baby Charlie is deeply loved and documented.

But this was also a lifestyle newborn session meant to showcase this family exactly as they are in this moment.

Sometimes that means the toddler sets the pace.

Sometimes it means they decide what we do next.

And sometimes, happily, they decide they are the main character.

And I let them be.

Because years from now, these are the images that will matter—the ones that tell the truth about this season of life. The love, the adjustment, the connection, and the beautifully messy transition into becoming a family of one more.
