What a Newborn Adore Session at Home Actually Looks Like


A newborn Adore session is a relaxed, baby-led experience that typically lasts about 2–3 hours, giving us plenty of time to slow down, take breaks, feed, cuddle, and simply follow your baby's cues. Lifestyle images and newborn props are included, so we can naturally move between the spaces and details that make your session feel personal.

This particular newborn session was with a sweet baby boy who had other plans for his photo session. He was wide awake for quite a bit of it, taking in his surroundings and making sure we knew he was there. And honestly, that is part of what makes an in-home newborn photography session so special.


Starting With Your Baby at Home


One of the first things we do during an in-home newborn adore session is simply settle in. There is no need to rush from one setup to the next. We spend a little time observing where baby is comfortable, looking around the nursery, and letting everyone get settled. The nursery often becomes an important part of the session because it is already a meaningful space in your home. We photograph the little details you've thoughtfully put together, the crib, artwork, books, textures, and all those tiny pieces that make the room feel like your baby's first space. These images become part of the story—not just photographs of your newborn, but photographs of the home and season of life they were welcomed into. The Session Is Always Baby-Led. Baby decides the pace. If your newborn is hungry, we pause for a feeding. If they need a diaper change, we take care of it. If they want to be held, we slow down and let them be held. And if they are wide awake? We photograph that, too. Newborns don't have to be asleep for the entire session. Awake images can capture so much personality, from those curious little eyes looking around the room to tiny stretches, expressions, and moments of connection with Mom. There isn't a goal of keeping baby asleep just for the sake of getting a certain photograph. The goal is to document your baby as they are during those very first days at home.


Exploring the Nursery


Once everyone is comfortable, we can move through different areas of the home. The nursery is usually one of my favorite places to photograph because it gives the session a sense of place. Instead of creating a studio backdrop, we're using the spaces your baby will actually grow up in. We might photograph baby in the crib, being held near the window, or simply nestled in someone's arms while the natural light comes into the room. These photographs tend to feel quiet and personal because they are.

OUTFIT CHANGES—IF BABY COOPERATES


There may be a few outfit options during the session, but again, baby gets the final say. If your newborn is comfortable and content, we can change outfits and capture a few different looks. If they're not interested in participating in an outfit change, we don't force it. Newborn props are also available during the session when they naturally fit into the flow.

Sometimes the simplest outfit ends up being all we need. The focus is never on how many outfits or setups we can get through. It's on creating photographs that feel natural and documenting this tiny stage while it is here.


AND THEN, FINALLY… SLEEP


This little guy gave us plenty of awake time before eventually giving in to sleep. And when he finally did, everything became wonderfully quiet. We were able to capture those dreamy photographs of him sleeping soundlessly—tiny details, peaceful expressions, and the kind of stillness that feels so fleeting during the newborn days. After spending so much of the session awake, those sleepy images felt even more meaningful.


WHAT MAKES AN IN-HOME NEWBORN SESSION DIFFERENT?


An in-home newborn session isn't about creating a perfectly controlled environment. Your home is where your baby is comfortable, where feedings happen, where you learn their little sounds and cues, and where these first days are actually unfolding. The session leaves room for all of that. There might be awake photographs, sleepy photographs, feeding breaks, cuddles, outfit changes, nursery details, and plenty of pauses in between. The flow depends on the baby in front of the camera. And that is really the heart of a newborn adore session: we don't make your baby fit the session. The session follows your baby. The result is a collection of photographs that tells the story of those first days at home, exactly how as they happened.
