A Classic Studio Maternity Session
I had so much fun with this sweet family during their maternity session in the studio. Mom and Dad kept things classic with white and denim, and I loved how simple and effortless everything felt. There is something about a clean studio setup and neutral clothing that really lets the family connection become the focus.
And, of course, we had to make sure big brother was part of it all.
Keeping Maternity Photos Simple & Classic
When it comes to styling a maternity session, I always tell my clients that you don't have to overcomplicate things. A classic white top with jeans is one of those combinations that photographs beautifully and will still feel timeless years from now.
The goal isn't for your clothing to take over the photos. I want you to look back and immediately remember this season of your life, the people you were with, and how you felt together.
Simple outfits also give us plenty of room to focus on the little things—the way Dad looks at Mom, the way big brother reaches for her belly, or those little smiles that happen naturally when everyone is together.
Big Brother excitement
One of my favorite parts of photographing a growing family is including the older siblings. They are becoming part of a completely new chapter too, and I want them to feel just as important during the session.
Big brother was so sweet throughout this session, but he definitely saved the best for last.
The Superhero Surprise
At the end of the session, big brother changed into a superhero costume with “Big Brother” on it—and he completely stole the show! How cute is this family?! It was such a fun surprise and the perfect way to celebrate his very important new role. I think we were all a little obsessed with his superhero moment.
These are the kinds of details I love capturing during sessions. They don't have to be perfectly planned or posed. Sometimes the most memorable photos come from the little things that happen along the way.
My Tip for Including Older Siblings
If you're planning a maternity session and have an older child, don't be afraid to let their personality be part of it.
Bring their favorite outfit, a special toy, something that represents them, or even a fun surprise like this little superhero costume. It doesn't have to match perfectly. In fact, sometimes those personal details are exactly what make the images feel like your family.
I had the best time with this beautiful family, and I loved seeing how excited everyone was for their newest little addition. There was so much love in the studio, and big brother's superhero debut was the sweetest way to end our time together.
